Former ARBITRON Chairman, President, and CEO STEVE MORRIS has passed away after a two-year battle with prostate cancer, according to an obituary in THE NEW YORK TIMES.
MORRIS, a YALE UNIVERSITY and HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL graduate was CEO of ARBITRON in 2001-2009 and President in 1992-2009, also serving as Chairman before retiring in 2009. He was also EVP of ARBITRON's then-parent CERIDIAN CORP. in 1996-2001 and worked at GENERAL FOODS, VIDCODE, and CSW RESEARCH LTD. He also chaired NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO News-Talk WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK's Digital Innovation Fund among several other charities.
A statement from WNYC President and CEO LAURA WALKER and Chair MAYO STUNTZ said, "NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO joins the MORRIS family, especially (wife) VICKIE, in mourning the loss of our longtime friend STEVE MORRIS. STEVE loved his involvement with WNYC and was proud to support work that he believed made the world a better place. He particularly enjoyed WNYC’s commitment to 'intelligent conversation.' His incredible spirit and leadership will continue thanks to his many generous contributions to NEW YORK CITY and KATONAH, NY, benefiting all of us who consider these places home."
Donations in MORRIS' memory may be made to WNYC STUDIOS at NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO (pledge3.wnyc.org/donate/memoriam/onestep) or to NEIGHBOR'S LINK OF MT. KISCO (www.neighborslink.org/engage/donate).
