CBS NEWS RADIO’s WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP is celebrating 80 years on the air with special programming on MARCH 13th, including a look at the very first broadcast in 1938 and the show's evolution over the years. Hosts have included DOUGLAS EDWARDS, DALLAS TOWNSEND, and CHRISTOPHER GLENN; the show's current weekday morning edition is anchored by STEVE KATHAN and produced by PAUL FARRY, while the evening edition is anchored by DAVE BARRETT and produced by JAMES HUTTON. In addition to the special editions, the show's anniversary will be featured in stories airing on TV's CBS THIS MORNING, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR, CBSN, and CBSNews.com.
“People have lots of choices for news, so achieving 80 years on the air is an incredible landmark,” said CBS NEWS RADIO GM CRAIG SWAGLER. “We are proud that millions of Americans rely on the reporting of CBS News every day. We continue to provide our affiliates and their listeners with the most accurate and relevant information they can trust. From shortwave and the MURROW Boys to smartphones and our stellar correspondents, THE WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP is still the leader setting the standard in quality journalism.”
The MARCH 13th, 1938 edition of the ROUNDUP, anchored by ROBERT TROUT, covered the Nazi invasion of AUSTRIA with reports from the field, including EDWARD R. MURROW's first on-air appearance. The show went on to win several awards, including RTDNA MURROW Awards in six of the past eight years, and induction onto the NATIONAL RADIO HALL OF FAME in 1995.
