DICK BROADCASTING COMPANY Country WRNS/NEW BERN, NC morning personality and COUNTRY RADIO HALL OF FAME member JIM MANTEL has announced his retirement from radio, effective at or near the end of JUNE.
"After 34 or so years of getting up between 3a and 3:30a, I’ve decided to get some sleep," MANTEL tells ALL ACCESS. "There are some things my wife and I would like to do, and the constraints of strange hours and limited time off prevent that. Our daughters are not close enough to spend as much time as we’d like with them, and I have a HARLEY that doesn’t have near enough miles on it. I also have a V/O business that I’ve been working at 'part time when I have time,' and I’ll spend more time on that trying to get better. It’s going to be a little scary; my wife and I have never shared a bathroom in the morning, so this could get messy!" Reach MANTEL here.
MANTEL's radio resume spans more than 36 years, highlighted by an 18-year run with iHEARTMEDIA Country WGAR/CLEVELAND, during which time he was honored as the CMA Large Market Personality Of The Year in 1993. Shortly after leaving WGAR in 2010, MANTEL and his "MANTEL IN THE MORNING" show began another successful stay at WRNS. He was inducted into the OHIO RADIO AND TV HALL OF FAME in 2005 and the COUNTRY RADIO HALL OF FAME in 2017 (NET NEWS 2/22/17). MANTEL's radio resume also includes time at Country outlets KNFM/ODESSA, TX; KRYS/CORPUS CRISTI; and KKBQ/HOUSTON.
WRNS PD and MANTEL's morning co-host, CRSYTAL LEGENDS, tells ALL ACCESS the search is on for his successor; five years minimum morning show experience is required, with candidates urged to send materials here. The position is posted with full job description on the ALL ACCESS Jobs forum here.
