FRANK QUILICI, who served as an infielder, manager, and radio broadcaster for the MINNESOTA TWINS, passed away MONDAY (5/14) after a long illness at 79. QUILICI played for the TWINS in 1965-70, then was named a coach in 1971 and manager, replacing BILL RIGNEY, in mid-season 1972. He managed the club until 1975, moving to the radio booth for WCCO-A/MINNEAPOLIS alongside HERB CARNEAL in 1976-77 and again in 1980-82.
The TWINS released a statement MONDAY afternoon saying, "The MINNESOTA TWINS today mourn the passing of FRANK QUILICI. FRANK not only exemplified professionalism as a player, coach, manager and broadcaster for the TWINS, he also served as a community leader in the TWIN CITIES working to make sure youth had recreational opportunities and contributed to many other charitable causes. The club, like many of his friends throughout the game, is thinking of the QUILICI family during this difficult time."
