FACEBOOK, currently under investigation by the DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE over its dealings with political consultancy CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA regarding data sharing, is now also being investigated by the FBI, the SECURITY & EXCHANGE COMMISSION and the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. Sources told THE WASHINGTON POST that the multiple agencies are going to "focus on the actions and statements of the tech giant" ... "suggesting the wide-ranging nature of the investigation."
FACEBOOK confirmed being contacted by the federal agencies and that “We are cooperating with officials in the U.S., U.K. and beyond,” said FACEBOOK spokesman MATT STEINFELD. “We’ve provided public testimony, answered questions, and pledged to continue our assistance as their work continues.”
Although he has no direct knowledge of the investigation, the former director of the FTC’s BUREAU OF CONSUMER PROTECTION, DAVID VLADECK, told the POST, “The fact that the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, the FBI, the SEC and the FTC are sitting down together does raise serious concerns” and "all sorts of red flags.”
