UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA Triple A WXPN/PHILADELPHIA will launch a new weekly music program featuring Americana music starting this SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th. Hosted and programed by WXPN MD DAN REED, the AMERICAN RADIO HOUR will feature the best of Americana music EVERY SUNDAY from 3-4p.
According to BRUCE WARREN, WXPN’s Assoc. GM/Programming, “WXPN has regularly featured Americana artists in its mix; favorites such as WILCO, MARGO PRICE, STURGILL SIMPSON, CHRIS STAPLETON, MAVIS STAPLES, BONNIE RAITT, LUCINDA WILLIAMS, LYLE LOVETT, JIM LAUDERDALE, JASON ISBELL, BRANDI CARLILE, JOHN PRINE, and new groups like THE WAR AND TREATY, COURTNEY MARIE ANDREWS, CORDOVAS AND LUKAS NELSON AND PROMISE OF THE REAL. With the AMERICANA MUSIC HOUR, we’ll be able to dig a little deeper and more broadly into the genre.”
With the addition of AMERICANA MUSIC HOUR, the NICK SPITZER-hosted American Routes will move to SUNDAYS at 4p, and Sound Opinions with GREG KOT and JIM DEROGATIS will move to TUESDAY NIGHTS at 10p.
The AMERICANA RADIO HOUR is being launched as WXPN and its nationally-syndicated daily music program WORLD CAFE head to NASHVILLE for the annual AMERICANA MUSIC FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE, taking place SEPTEMBER 11th-16th.
A collaboration with WMOT/NASHVILLE and NPR MUSIC will present the inaugural AMERICANAFEST DAY STAGE, featuring five days of live performances that will be broadcast live on WMOT and webcast on VUHAUS.COM and on WORLD CAFE/NPR MUSIC.
On WEDNESDAY evening (9/12), NPR MUSIC and WORLD CAFE will also webcast the AMERICANA MUSIC HONORS & AWARDS ceremony live from the RYMAN AUDITORIUM.
WORLD CAFE has had a consistent presence in NASHVILLE since OCTOBER 2017, with in-studio music sessions and interviews with NASHVILLE-based artists contributed by correspondents ANN POWERS of NPR MUSIC and music journalist JEWLY HIGHT.
