Applications Now Being Accepted For 2019 BMI Foundation Scholarships

The BMI FOUNDATION is now taking online applications for its 2019 scholarships. Applications are due no later than TUESDAY, JANUARY 1st, except for Student Composer Awards applications, which are due FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1st; the online applications can be found here.
“We love getting to open new creative doors for talented songwriters, composers and scholars across the country,” said BMI FOUNDATION Pres. DEIRDRE CHADWICK. “So many of our award recipients have gone on to have flourishing careers, in part because of programs like these that afford them continued educational and development opportunities.”
The scholarships include the BMI Founders Internship Program for Radio Broadcasting, a 4-6 week paid internship with a major broadcaster awarded on merit and the best original essay; the BMI Future Jazz Master Scholarship, a $5,000 award to a rising jazz star pursuing a graduate degree in Jazz Studies, Jazz Performance, or related majors; the BMI Student Composer Awards, $20,000 in prizes to young Classical composers age 27 or younger and citizens of the WESTERN HEMISPHERE; the JOHN LENNON Scholarships, three prizes totaling $20,000 to U.S. college-student songwriters (age 17 to 24) for best original songs; the NASHVILLE Songwriting Scholarship, $5,000 for the best original Americana, blues, bluegrass, contemporary Christian, country, folk, or roots song written by college students between the ages of 17 and 24 (with KACEY MUSGRAVES as a judge); the peermusic Latin Scholarship, $5,000 scholarship for best original song or instrumental in any Latin genre (with GLORIA TREVI as honorary spokesperson); and the WOODY GUTHRIE Fellowship, $5,000 for scholarly research at the WOODY GUTHRIE ARCHIVES in TULSA.
