2019 duPont-Columbia Awards Winners Announced, WNYC Takes Home Two

The COLUMBIA JOURNALISM SCHOOL has announced the winners of its 2019 DUPONT-COLUMBIA AWARDS for "outstanding audiovisual reporting in the public interest." The winners will be honored at a gala on JANUARY 22nd, hosted by CBS NEWS "60 MINUTES" Correspondent LESLEY STAHL and NPR "ALL THINGS CONSIDERED" host AILSA CHANG.
Radio and podcast related winners include:
- REVEAL, PRX, PBS NEWS HOUR, and the ASSOCIATED PRESS for "KEPT OUT," a multi-platform investigation of "redlining" in the banking system.
- CHICAGO PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WBEZ/CHICAGO's "THIS AMERICAN LIFE" for "OUR TOWN," a look at an ALABAMA town which has absorbed a wave of immigrant workers for decades.
- NEW YORK PUBLIC RADIO News-Talk WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK's "CAUGHT: THE LIVES OF JUVENILE JUSTICE," a podcast on the effects of the juvenile justice system on young lives.
- WNYC and PROPUBLICA's "TRUMP INC.," a podcast investigating the President's business dealings.
“In a year of big news and upheaval for women, it is fitting that there has also been an extraordinary number of journalistic achievements by women,” said Jury Chair and former NBC NEWS Executive CHERYL GOULD. "We expect this welcome trend to continue and are confident that one day soon, this will go from being a notable trend to an established fact."
