GARY DOLPHIN's second suspension from UNIVERSITY OF IOWA football and men's basketball broadcasts for on-air comments will end in time for 2019 SPRING football practice, the rights holder LEARFIELD IMG's HAWKEYE SPORTS PROPERTIES has announced. DOLPHIN, the radio voice of the HAWKEYES, was suspended after calling MARYLAND basketball player BRUNO FERNANDO "King Kong" during the post-game show FEBRUARY 19th; he was suspended earlier in the season after being caught on a hot mic criticizing the team and recruiting.
DOLPHIN apologized at a press conference on WEDNESDAY afternoon at CARVER-HAWKEYE ARENA, accompanied by Athletic Director GARY BARTA. DOLPHIN said that he hoped the incident "will open up additional conversations, not only here on campus but across the state and across the country."
