SHERRY ST. JOHN-CLARK, the current midday host of BIG RIVER BROADCASTING Country WXFL (KIX 96)/FLORENCE-MUSCLE SHOALS, AL and host of its “SUNDAY NIGHT COUNTRY CLASSICS" show, has announced her retirement after 43 years of working in broadcasting, effective immediately. She will initially ease into retirement by taking on a reduced on-air role at the station. A member of the ALABAMA BROADCASTERS HALL OF FAME, her career includes previous stops in HOUSTON and MEMPHIS.
CLARK stated, “For 43 years, radio and I grew up together, from grease pencils and splicing blocks to digital editing, [from] scratchy vinyl 45s to downloads. Radio and I have learned a lot together. And I probably wouldn’t be retiring now, but my favorite headphones broke yesterday. I took it as a sign.”
WXFL OM/PD FLETCH BROWN said, “SHERRY literally helped train me when I started 22 years ago at KIX 96! She set the bar for production and on-air presentation. The industry has been fortunate to have her.”
GM NICK MARTIN remarked, “SHERRY has been an instrumental part of KIX team from day one and will continue to be for a few more years … just a little less time in the office! She’s truly one of the outstanding female voices in the industry to have ever been on-air. Not many folks can say that RICK DEES was my opening act each day! She’s had an award-winning, hall of fame career, and we look forward to celebrating all of that with her when the time is right. We certainly thank her for raising the bar.”
BIG RIVER BROADCASTING Pres. JERRY PHILLIPS called her, "One of the best voices in radio," and said, "She has been a major player for us for a long time. Thank you Sherry. Rock on."
