An open letter to listeners of CALL COMMUNICATIONS GROUP noncommercial Contemporary Christian CALL RADIO -- WMKL/HAMMOCKS-MIAMI, FL, WPSF/CLEWISTON, FL (licensed to AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL BROADCASTING), WMYE/FORT MYERS, FL, WMKJ/TAVERNIER, FL, and WAZQ/DUCK KEY-MARATHON, FL -- by GM ROB ROBBINS says that the station will be "phasing out traditional FM radio" in an attempt to "better serve teens in FLORIDA" via digital media.
The post recounts the station's origins in 1994, its aim to serve teens and young adults, and the changes in media consumption that call into question the commitment of 82% of the station's $200,000 annual operating budget to FM broadcasting despite only 10% of listening coming from the FM stations. "FM radio is no longer the most effective tool for our mission," ROBBINS writes, adding, "We want to put CALL RADIO’s resources into creating great content like streaming music, on demand music and podcasts, school sports broadcasting, live streaming radio, live concerts and events, hire programming staff, build a digital production studio, and bigger ideas currently in the planning stage."
The post does not indicate whether the company will sell the licenses or turn them in to the FCC.
