WEST COAST BROADCASTING Classic Country KJUG-A (CLASSIC COUNTRY AM 1270)/VISALIA-TULARE, CA legend ART NUGENT has hung up his headphones.
NUGENT has been part of the SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY radio landscape for 50 years, starting at a station in YUBA CITY where his job was to walk across the room and turn on the tape player. For the past 18 months he has produced a show called "SPOTLIGHT ON," where he offered an in-depth look at some of the biggest names in Country music. His final broadcast of that show was this past SUNDAY (12/31), and today (1/5) he hosted the morning show for what was his final on-air appearance.
NUGENT claims that his main reason for retiring is the changing industry. "I am old school," he says. "One of the first things you learn is that you are a guest in people's homes. It is not the same industry anymore. For me it was always that the listeners do matter."
