DAVID ELLNER has been promoted to the newly created Exec. VP/Global Digital Initiatives post at UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP. Based in NEW YORK, ELLNER reports to UMG's Executive Committee, which is led by Chairman/CEO DOUG MORRIS.
"As UNIVERSAL continues to lead the industry into the digital marketplace, we felt the time was right to create this new position to ensure that all revenue opportunities are uncovered and maximized to their fullest potential," MORRIS stated. "Moreover, since many of our content partners operate on a global basis, coordination amongst our territories is imperative. And no one is better suited for this role than DAVID, who for the last 10 years has played an integral part in positioning UNIVERSAL MOTOWN at the forefront of many new digital opportunities. His understanding of the music business, combined with his ability to protect the interests of our artists while finding common ground among web-based companies, is unrivaled. We are delighted to recognize all of his contributions and expand the playing field for him even further with this well deserved promotion."
ELLNER said, "DOUG continues to provide the courage and vision to lead this industry into the digital age, and it's a privilege to assist him with this undertaking. DOUG has made it clear that he wants to make our artists' music, videos and digital products available wherever, whenever and however fans desire it. So my role is clear: Help grow our business even further through strategic investments and new revenue models and ventures, while connecting the dots among all of our divisions."
