Florida Station Fights State Over Travel Show Licensing

WINGS COMMUNICATIONS Talk WELE-A/ORMOND BEACH-DAYTONA BEACH has been told by the State of FLORIDA to stop its weekend "PREMIER TRAVEL SHOW" because it requires an auctioneer's license.
The DAYTONA BEACH NEWS-JOURNAL reports that the station says it doesn't need an auctioneer's license since it has a travel sales license and the money from the bidding stays with the station (the travel packages are traded out for advertising, and the station then sells them to the highest bidder and keeps the proceeds). The state Department of Business and Professional Regulation issued a cease-and-desist letter to the station, which says that the state was misinformed about the show's structure.
