Amid all the crazy over the past several days, there’s been some good news to report.
CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK HOSPITALS Area Media Sr. Dir./ East Areas JIM LITTRELL checked in with ALL ACCESS to share news regarding radio stations who stood in the face of the Coronavirus, shouting “oh no you don’t!” and followed through on radiothons that had been underway.
LITTRELL said, “Our events understandably have all been postponed the next couple of months, but these markets squeaked out their events before the bottom fell out!”
On THURSDAY (3/12), BINNIE MEDIA's Adult Hits WFNK (107.5 FRANK FM) and Country WTHT (99.9 THE WOLF)/PORTLAND, ME, under the direction of VP/Programming STAN BENNETT, had to move their 15th annual radiothon for the BARBARA BUSH CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL from the hospital to their station – phone bank and all. The station announced, "everything is being canceled but one thing that is never canceled is the BARBARA BUSH CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL so we're not canceling on them!"

“Since no outside visitors were allowed in the building there were no families to be interviewed and no phone bank volunteers, LITTRELL said. “The news kept getting worse and at any moment they could've stopped the event, but they persisted. They ended up raising a record amount $383,697 – just a tad over last year's total which is a miracle, considering!”
Meanwhile, in WINCHESTER, VA, iHEARTMEDIA's WUSQ (Q102), led by OM/PD DAVID MILLER, also had to move their event from CHILDREN'S NATIONAL HOSPITAL in DC, to their studios. They persisted with the same message that the kids still need their help no matter what. Despite losing half of their morning show for the second day due to illness, they still raised an amazing $183,724.16 for the kids!

Lastly, at ENTERCOM station AC WMAS/SPRINGFIELD, MA, PD JIM RAINO and his team had started their 18th annual event on TUESDAY last week and were in the hospital before everything went south. They stayed on message – and in the hospital – and were able to raise an amazing $226,877.90!

LITTRELL summed it up saying, “The commitment by these stations to their local CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS is unwavering and we are so fortunate to have them as our dear partners!”
