BENZTOWN created an audio tribute to legendary Country-Folk singer/songwriter JOHN PRINE, which can be heard here. The audio tribute was written and voiced by BILL ROYAL and produced by ADAM HOOD.
PRINE died YESTERDAY (4/7) at age 73 from complications related to COVID-19. Winner of a lifetime achievement GRAMMY earlier this year, PRINE was influential in shaping the AMERICANA genre with a body of songs about everyday life, including: “Angel from MONTGOMERY,” “Sam Stone,” “Hello in There”, "Paradise" and "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness". In 2017, ROLLING STONE proclaimed him “The MARK TWAIN of AMERICAN songwriting.”
He was also an author, actor, record-label owner, two-time GRAMMY winner, a member of the SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME, the NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME, and the recipient of the 2016 PEN NEW ENGLAND SONG LYRICS OF LITERARY EXCELLENCE AWARD. His songs have been covered by artists including: BONNIE RAITT, GEORGE STRAIT, CARLY SIMON, JOHNNY CASH, DON WILLIAMS, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, JOAN BAEZ, CARL PERKINS, BETTE MIDLER and many more.
