ESPN has asked its most prominent hosts and commentators to take a 15% pay cut over the next three months. The network said that the cuts were requested from about 100 of its commentators after its executives agreed to 20% to 30% pay cuts.
The cuts are intended to help the network weather the COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS pandemic, during which sports events have been cancelled or postponed, and to ward off furloughs or layoffs of employees while the crisis continues. The NEW YORK POST reports that among the hosts agreeing to the cuts are SCOTT VAN PELT, STEPHEN A. SMITH, DICK VITALE, MIKE BREEN, MARK JACKSON, and JAY BILAS; DAN LE BATARD discussed the cuts on his show TUESDAY, with co-host JON "STUGOTZ" WEINER joking that the cuts are coming at the same time he intended to ask for a raise.
