Is RUPERT MURDOCH interested in the TRIBUNE CO.? A report by REUTERS claims that MURDOCH has joined the CHANDLER family's bid for TRIBUNE with the intent of taking a stake in TRIBUNE's LONG ISLAND paper, NEWSDAY.
MURDOCH would not be able to buy the paper outright due to cross-ownership concerns with NEWS CORP.'s WNYW-TV (FOX 5)/NEW YORK and the NEW YORK POST, but he could buy a minority interest and merge the POST's and NEWSDAY's back-office functions while maintaining seperate editorial operations.
TRIBUNE owns one radio property, Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO.
