JOEY CHESTNUT has successfully defended his title in WING BOWL 15, the annual competitive eating extravaganza held by CBS Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA. CHESTNUT, a "professional eater" from SAN JOSE, stormed back late in the second round to take the lead in the event, which this year pitted five pros against several local PHILLY amateurs with new cars as prizes for the winner and the leading local eater.
CHESTNUT's 182 wings broke his own record from last year by nine. Pros PATRICK BERTOLETTI and SONYA "THE BLACK WIDOW" THOMAS finished second and third, respectively, with local eater GENTLEMAN JERRY finishing fourth but winning a car as top local competitor.
And immediately after CHESTNUT's win, legendary WING BOWL champion BILL "EL WINGADOR" SIMMONS announced that he will come back from "retirement" to challenge CHESTNUT in next year's event. WING BOWL was created by morning show co-host AL MORGANTI and is now held annually on the FRIDAY before the SUPER BOWL before a sellout crowd at WACHOVIA CENTER, home of the FLYERS and SIXERS.
