Jimenez Files Countersuit Against SBS; New Show Readies Debut

ALL ACCESS hears that LUIS JIMENEZ, formerly of SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM Tropical WSKQ (LA MEGA)/NEW YORK and now with UNIVISION, has responded to a lawsuit filed by SBS with a suit of his own, claiming that SBS has hired a staff to impersonate him and use his trademarked material in an effort to confuse the public and advertisers into thinking that he is still on WSKQ's morning show "El Vacilon de la Manana." The suit, filed in the SUPREME COURT of NEW YORK, quotes SBS management as saying they want the show to remain unchanged from previous years. The suit also claims that MEGA's current morning show refers to one of JIMENEZ's replacements as "LUIS."
When contacted by ALL ACCESS, an SBS representative confirmed that the company has two litigations pending against JIMENEZ -- one in state court, alleging breach of contract and tortious interference, among other claims, and one in federal court, alleging trademark infringement and cybersquatting -- but would not comment further, instead referring the matter to outside counsel, who was not available for comment at press time.
In other news, JIMENEZ's UNIVISION morning show will debut on FEBRUARY 22 on KZFO/DALLAS. It is also believed the show will air in LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, SAN FRANCISCO and FRESNO.
