The NAB has joined the AMERICAN BIRD CONSERVANCY, CTIA-THE WIRELESS ASSOCIATION, DEFENDERS OF WILDLIFE, ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TOWER ERECTORS, and PCIA-THE WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE ASSOCIATION in sending a letter to FAA Airport Engineering Division Manager RICK MARINELLI asking for a "conspicuity study" to determine whether steady burning red obstruction sidelights can be safely eliminated from communications towers. The letter, which references the current FCC docket on towers' effects on migratory birds, asks the FAA to review its longstanding requirement of the steady red lights.
