Cox Radio Agrees To Encode In Houston
February 21, 2007 at 7:10 AM (PT)
COX RADIO has agreed to encode its four stations in HOUSTON for the ARBITRON Portable People Meter radio ratings service.
The PPM system has been in market trials in HOUSTON since 2005 and is scheduled to be commercialized as the sole source of ARBITRON ratings in HOUSTON later this year.
COX RADIO Pres./CEO BOB NEIL said, "While we do not have an agreement to subscribe to the PPM service in HOUSTON, the MRC accreditation convinced us that the research issues had been thoroughly vetted. While we still have questions about whether PPM is the right measurement tool, we feel the MRC accreditation gives us the confidence to encode our stations in HOUSTON. We will then be able to evaluate the data further and make our decisions about whether we will be a subscriber."

The MEDIA RATING COUNCIL accredited HOUSTON PPM ratings at the end of JANUARY. ARBITRON had previously stated that it would not commercialize the PPM radio ratings service in HOUSTON until it had received MRC accreditation.
