As ALL ACCESS hinted last week when MICHAEL STEELE exited the simulcast (NET NEWS 2/16), ENTRAVISION Alternative KDLD & KDLE (INDIE 103.1)/LOS ANGELES have named MAX TOLKOFF PD, effective APRIL 1. TOLKOFF, a 30-year vet at the format, makes the move from his second stint as OM/PD at PHOENIX MEDIA Alternative WFNX/BOSTON at the end of MARCH. WFNX will retain TOLKOFF as a programming consultant.
INDIE 103.1 Station Manager DAWN GIROCCO said, "MAX is considered one of the founding fathers of Alternative radio, and I have complete confidence in his ability to take INDIE 103.1 to the next level. INDIE 103.1 has an extremely loyal fan base, and we remain committed to airing music that they won’t find on any other radio station."
"This is a fantastic opportunity to join a radio station that has very quickly made a name for itself in LOS ANGELES," said TOLKOFF. "INDIE 103.1 is an Alternative radio station in the truest sense of the word, and I’m excited to keep the station’s adventurous, pioneering programming spirit intact as we seek to expand our listener base."
Keith Dakin Rises To PD At WFNX
Back at WFNX, APD/afternooner KEITH DAKIN has been promoted to PD. DAKIN joined WFNX as Asst. MD/afternoons in 2003 and moved up to APD in 2004.
FNX NETWORK GM GARY KURTZ said, "Since FALL ’04 when MAX arrived, FNX has nearly tripled its 18-34 share and increased its 25-54 share by 45%. Thanks to MAX, it’s a much more competitive rock landscape in BOSTON radio today than two years ago, and we’re happy to have someone like KEITH who can step right in and help continue the trend."
"I’m thrilled for the opportunity to take over as Program Director of WFNX," said DAKIN. "Being APD under MAX for the last 2 1/2 years has taught me a great deal, from how to successfully program alternative music in 2007 to how many pieces of bacon one needs for a good sandwich. (The number is 10, by the way.) I’m very excited to continue the upward momentum FNX has shared in the last year and looking forward to continuing to grow the station with the help of our tremendous air staff, the resources of the PHOENIX MEDIA GROUP and the guidance of our GM, GARY KURTZ."
