CBS Oldies WOMC/DETROIT morning fixture DICK PURTAN and The Salvation Army in metro DETROIT joined together for the 20th straight year setting another one-day, fundraising record as WOMC listeners and sponsors helped raise $2,398,783 in 16 hours to feed, shelter, council and rehabilitate DETROIT’s homeless and hungry.
"I never thought we’d get even close to $2 million, but to go considerably above it is remarkable," said PURTAN. "It’s a great testament to our listeners and to the community of SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN. To think that even during these tough times people still found ways to contribute is just overwhelming. We are all so very grateful for their generosity."
Since 1988, the DICK PURTAN Radiothon has raised close to $17 million for the Bed and Bread Program, including this year’s record total.
