PATAPHYSICAL BROADCASTING FOUNDATION noncommercial KUSP/SANTA CRUZ and CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY-MONTEREY BAY noncommercial KAZU/PACIFIC GROVE-MONTEREY are considering a merger, reports the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS.
KUSP Manager TERRY GREEN says that the stations will explore ways over the next six months to restructure their management and programming to cut costs, but that listeners will not notice any changes until a deal is consummated.
The plan does not include simulcasting but would result in sharing of some programming and news and would put the stations under the management of a single non-profit entity with each station maintaining semi-autonomous management. Roughly half of the stations' present schedules overlap, mostly NPR and other nationally distibuted programming.
