Employees at SPOTIFY's PARCAST podcast production company have unanimously ratified their first collective bargaining agreement, a three-year contract, with the WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA, EAST (WGAE).
The deal includes raises for all employees, with an average raise per person of 7.12% the first year, the lowest-paid employees getting 10-25%; the entire lowest salary tier was promoted and the effective minimum annual salary will be $70,000 plus overtime.
Other contract highlights include a 2% guaranteed annual salary increase; diversity guarantees; no changes or cost increases for health benefits; overtime after 8 hours a day; 11 weeks' minimum severance; new senior level titles; allowing employees to pitch new shows; regular performance reviews; four weeks’ notice for significant changes to or cancellations of shows; and guaranteed credits.
A statement from the bargaining committee said, “It was a long road, with 15 months of bargaining, to get this deal. We’re very happy with the terms of our new Union contract, which we all fought together to achieve. Our unit demonstrated amazing solidarity, all the way to the point of signing a strike pledge, and we’re pleased to be able to move forward together into the next chapter of our effort.”
WGAE Exec. Dir. LOWELL PETERSON said, “More and more audiences listen to well-crafted podcasts, and this agreement demonstrates that collective bargaining works in this critical sector.”
