CBS CORPORATION CEO LES MOONVES has hired an executive to run the company's long-discussed entry into the theatrical movie field. Former PARAMOUNT executive BRUCE TOBEY will serve as COO of CBS FEATURE FILMS, which will produce four to six films per year in the $10 million-$40 million budget range; he will also oversee the new division's home video distribution.
TOBEY served as EVP of PARAMOUNT's Motion Picture Group in 2001-2005; he was previously EVP of VIACOM ENTERTSINMENT GROUP, including VIACOM TELEVISION, UPN, and MANN THEATERS.
CBS was formerly related to PARAMOUNT before the two units were split in the reorganization of VIACOM last year. It plans to hire a CEO for the new movie studio, to whom TOBEY will report.
