Muslim Group At Odds With WBT's Katz

A CHARLOTTE-area Muslim group is urging a boycott of advertisers on LINCOLN FINANCIAL Talk WBT-A & F/CHARLOTTE afternoon host JEFF KATZ's show. The CHARLOTTE OBSERVER reports that the ISLAMIC POLITICAL PARTY OF AMERICA called a press conference WEDNESDAY to complain that KATZ mocks Muslims by sarcastically referring to it as "the religion of peace" and has guests that are critical of Islam.
KATZ, for his part, tells the paper that he is just frustrated that too few Muslims have spoken out against terrorism, saying, "I've been looking for the reasonable, moderate, sensible voice of Islam that says, 'Stop killing in our name.' There are 1 billion Muslims in the world. I don't for a second think there are 1 billion terrorists... But [radical Islamic] groups have cowed people -- including practicing Muslims -- into not speaking out." He expressed hope, however, after a "Secular Islam Summit" held in FLORIDA.
WBT GM RICK JACKSON told the paper that he's never heard KATZ say anything hateful or bigoted and noted that "Talk radio is not about balance, it's about opinions."
