BMI fiscal year 2022 revenue increased 16% year-over-year to $1.573 billion and royalty distributions increased 10% to $1.471 billion, both record figures for the performance rights organization. Direct deal revenue fell from $85 million to $49 million; revenue from digital sources rose 35% to $572 million. Domestic media licensing revenue (cable, satellite, and broadcast TV and broadcast radio) increased 2% to $479 million, with radio alone up 6% to $114.2 million.
“We had an exceptionally strong year thanks to the incredible popularity of the BMI repertoire, allowing us to deliver the highest royalty distributions in BMI’s history,” said Pres./CEO MIKE O'NEILL. “Providing this financial stability to our outstanding creative community is a gratifying culmination of BMI’s efforts every day on behalf of our songwriters, composers and publishers. Moving forward, we will continue to maximize the value of our affiliates’ music and ensure that our company is well positioned to deliver growth for our creators and copyright owners well into the future.”
