Report: Starbucks Plans To Launch Record Label

STARBUCKS is planning to launch its own record label -- STARBUCKS RECORDS -- and is close to a deal for the next album from PAUL McCARTNEY, sources tell AP. One source said, "They have a very targeted, efficient distribution channel that allows them to be profitable in a limited way with music."
STARBUCKS currently runs HEAR MUSIC, which releases the "Artists Choice" compilation series. But with its new label, the company is expected to sign, record and produce its own artists rather than licensing songs from other labels. It is also expected to seek distribution deals so that it can sell records at other retail outlets besides it own.
