FCC Rejects Several License Renewal Challenges

The FCC has rejected five informal objections to the license renewals of CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KFBK-A and KSTE-A/SACRAMENTO. The objectors claimed that the stations are politically biased; the Commission pointed out that it does not involve itself in such matters. In another case, CLEAR CHANNEL's renewal for Talk WISN-A/MILWAUKEE was approved over the objections of a listener complaining about host MARK BELLING's use of the term "wetbacks."
Similarly, the Commission rejected a complaint filed against the renewal of CLEAR CHANNEL's WABI-A/BANGOR for the station's format flip from AC in 2005. An individual's complaint against the renewal of CLEAR CHANNEL's Talk WTVN-A/COLUMBUS on the grounds of a "rapid qualitative decline in the programming and broadcasting" on the station was dismissed. And the commission rejected three complaints, including one by the Speaker of the House of IDAHO, against CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KID-A/IDAHO FALLS based on the objectors' complaints that the TRISH AND HOLLY show voiced opinions with which they disagreed.
The objection of a JOLIET, IL woman to the renewal of CLEAR CHANNEL's WVAZ/CHICAGO for alleged defamation was likewise dismissed. The woman claimed that syndicated morning host TOM JOYNER has slandered her family since 2002 on his show and also claimed that the station's public notice announcements about its pending license renewals were inadequate -- claims rejected by the Commission.
The FCC also dismissed a petition by GOLDEN GULF BROADCASTING for reconsideration of the previously granted license renewal of WJZD INC.'s WJZD/LONG BEACH, MS. WJZD INC. had twice previously unsuccessfully petitioned the FCC to deny GOLDEN GULF's sale of its WQYZ/OCEAN SPRINGS, MS to CLEAR CHANNEL.
And HOPE RADIO OF ROLLA INC. saw its petition for reconsideration of an FCC order dismissing its application for a CP for an LPFM in ROLLA, MO denied. The petitioner had misstated the date of its incorporation on its initial application, leading to the dismissal.
