MEXICO's Pres. ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR is asking BAD BUNNY to return to MEXICO CITY to perform a free concert after thousands of fans were turned away from two shows at ESTADIO AZTECA, the largest stadium in LATIN AMERICA, despite buying tickets legally through TICKETMASTER.
OBRADOR says the country's government is willing to cover some production costs for the proposed performance. OBRADOR made the request at a press conference on THURSDAY (12/15), stating, "It made us very emotional to see sad young people who couldn't enter because their tickets were cloned, because they were cheated, some crying. They saved for a long time to be able to buy their tickets."
NPR is reporting a total of 1,600 faulty tickets were reported on the first night, and 110 on the second, according to PROFECO, MEXICO's consumer watchdog agency. This comes just a few week's after the same kind if incident oocured with the onsale of TALYLOR SWIFT's THE ERAS tour (NET NEWS 11/17).
In a statement on TWITTER, TICKETMASTER MEXICO said that more than 4.5 million people had registered for just 120,000 tickets. "An unprecedented number of counterfeit tickets, purchased out of our official channels, were presented at the entrances to the venue," the company wrote.
"This situation, in addition to confusion among the access control staff, caused temporary intermittence in the access control system, which unfortunately impeded the identification of legitimate tickets for some moments," TICKETMASTER MEXICO continued, adding: "It is important to highlight that there was no overcrowding or overselling of tickets."
TICKETMASTER MEXICO said the company "does not tolerate or participate in ticket reselling, which it has historically denounced to the authorities and encouraged actions against it." It also "repudiates the sale of tickets outside of the official points of sale, where fake tickets are frequently offered."
So far there has been no comment from BAD BUNNY's camp, but it is reported that PROFECO has ordered that an investigation take place, and TICKETMASTER be fined for the incident. Click here to read more.
