CRTC Rules CBC Show Too Dirty For Sunday Mornings
March 19, 2007 at 5:50 AM (PT)
The CRTC has ruled that CBC RADIO ONE's broadcast of two episodes of the series "A LITERARY ATLAS OF CANADA" should not have been broadcast on SUNDAY morning at 11a because of coarse language. The "WHISKEYJACK BLUES" episode airing JULY 16, 2006 and the "ROOM AVAILABLE" episode airing on SEPTEMBER 3, 2006 were reruns of the weeknight "IDEAS" series and included what a complainant called "frequent profanities," which the CRTC counted as 23 in the first episode. An advisory aired with the first eposide was determined by the CRTC to be inadequate.
The Commission decided that "proper scheduling would be the most effective means to respect the high standard provision of the [Broadcasting] Act in this circumstance."
