Ed Lover Has Some Things To Say

THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS' DAVID HINCKLEY interviews ED LOVER in today's edition, and ED says he loves radio and Hip-Hop. That doesn't mean they couldn't both use a little tidying up.
So he's taking his shot at it. He has just returned to morning radio as host of ED LOVER With EGYPT and ASHY on CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WWPR (POWER 105.1)/NEW YORK, and he couldn't be happier. "You can talk more in the morning," he says, laughing, "and I love to run my mouth off."
One point he has made is that while "there's still a lot of positive" in Hip-Hop today, some artists send the wrong messages. "I look at the number of Blacks and Latinos dying young," he says, "and a large part of that is the influence of lyrics in Hip-Hop, with their thuggism mentality.
"Yes, there's a place for 50 CENT, because he's talking about the life he lived. What we have to weed out is the fake thuggery." LOVER takes some heat for saying this. He doesn't mind. "If I praise what's good in the music, I'll criticize what's bad," he says.
