AUSTRALIA's MACQUARIE BANK has purchased UK tower owner NATIONAL GRID WIRELESS for $4.9 billion.
NGW, which owns the BBC's transmitter network across the UK, is one of two applicants for the new national digital radio multiplex, bidding against CHANNEL 4's consortium. MACQUARIE bought ITV transmitter operator ARQIVA, which is a partner with GCAP MEDIA in the first national digital radio multiplex, in 2004.
