CRTC OKs CFDR/Halifax Move To FM, Flip To Alternative
April 5, 2007 at 6:00 AM (PT)
The CRTC has approved the move of NEWCAP's Classic Country CFDR-A (780 KIXX)/HALIFAX from AM to 88.9 FM, using 21,000 watts. The station will flip to Alternative when it moves to the FM dial. The move is contingent on NEWCAP selling its 50% voting interest in METRO RADIO GROUP, which owns Classic Hits CKUL (KOOL 96.5)/HALIFAX. NEWCAP also owns Rock CFRQ (Q104) in the HALIFAX market.
Also approved by the CRTC is the CBC's addition of a transmitter in LA SARRE, QC on 100.7 FM with 4,290 watts to rebroadcast CHLM/ROUYN-NORANDA's LA PREMIERE CHAINE programming. The Commission also approved the amendment of the license for CHLM to add the formerly separately owned retransmitters CBFZ/TEMISCAMING and CBFY/VILLE MARIE to its license and revoke the independent licenses for the station as redundant, since the CBC now owns all three stations. The CBC purchased CHLM from RADIO NORD COMMUNICATIONS in 2004.
