April 10, 2007 at 5:46 AM (PT)
SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM Regional Mexican KLAX (97.9 LA RAZA)/LOS ANGELES syndicated morning man RENAN ALMENDAREZ COELLO (EL CUCUY) has been acquitted of nine misdemeanor charges stemming from a NEW YEAR'S DAY domestic violence call at his NORTHRIDGE, CA home.
The LOS ANGELES TIMES reports that the host won dismissal by a court commissioner of the charge of making a criminal threat on MONDAY after his wife declined to testify against him and a police officer who said ALMENDAREZ threatened his life over the phone testified that he did not feel frightened by the threat. The incident involved the police responding to a call and finding ALMENDAREZ' adult son and a housekeeper at the home, with the son telling police that his father had stabbed him when he tried to intervene in a fight between his parents. Eight of the charges were dismissed after the trial began on APRIL 2.
