CRTC Opens Diversity Proceeding
April 13, 2007 at 9:15 AM (PT)
The CRTC has launched a public proceeding to get public input on increasing diversity in broadcasting. Chairman KONRAD VON FINCKELSTEIN said that the Commission's goal "is to develop a clear and predictable policy that will ensure a diversity of voices, including editorial voices. The adoption of such a policy will further the evolution of the Canadian broadcasting system. The Commission intends to adopt a holistic approach that will include all components of the broadcasting industry."
Public hearings will start in GATINEAU, QC on SEPTEMBER 17. Public comments are being accepted by mail (CRTC, OTTAWA, ON K1A 0N2), fax ((819) 994-0218), or online here until JULY 18.
In addition, the CRTC is also asking for public comments on a code prepared by the CBSC to ensure journalistic independence for stations cross-owned with print media. Comments on that notice are also due by JULY 18.
