FOX SPORTS RADIO returns for a third season as the official sports radio network of "Strikeouts for Troops." The national non-profit organization was founded by SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS Pitcher BARRY ZITO and is supported by MLB players who pledge money for their accomplishments on the field for the benefit of war wounded veterans being treated at military hospitals across the country. Since the organization’s inception in 2005, nearly $500,000 has been raised through player contributions, fan donations and special events.
"In a world where professional athletes and celebrities are often portrayed as heroes, it's easy to lose sight of who the real heroes are," said ZITO. "They are the men and women in uniform stationed around the world who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice on a daily basis for us. They are brave and selfless."
