The local AIKEN, SC chapter of the NAACP has joined other local groups in demanding the firing of BEASLEY Talk WGAC-A/AUGUSTA, GA host AUSTIN RHODES for using the same "nappy-headed ho" comment that got DON IMUS fired.
Last FRIDAY, in a call to crosstown Gospel WAAW (REJOICE 94.7)/AUGUSTA, RHODES referred to the accuser in the DUKE Lacrosse case with the term, adding, according to CBS affiliate WRDW-TV, "A sex worker with multiple samples of male semen in her body, I am calling her what she is, a ho. As far as nappy hair goes, that's a description of myself, if I am going to say that about myself, I’m not going to be shy about saying it about somebody else either." Protestors gathered outside the station SATURDAY and AUGUSTA Mayor DEKE COPENHAVER and local African-American community leaders held a news conference MONDAY to call for an end to "name-calling," followed by a news conference by a group of ministers calling for RHODES' firing.
Last week, RHODES won a lawsuit against REJOICE FM and hosts BRIAN (RYAN B) LAMONT and CHARLES (CHAMP) WALKER for defamation for making false allegations on the air that RHODES is a convicted sexual predator.
