Chinese Restaurant Prank Call Bit Gets JV And Elvis In Trouble
April 23, 2007 at 3:30 PM (PT)
CBS Talk WFNY-F (92.3 FREE FM)/NEW YORK middayers JV AND ELVIS have apologized for a prank phone call bit to which a Chinese-American organization took exception, but the pair have been suspended indefinitely without pay for the incident.
Among other things, the bit involved calling Chinese restaurants and saying "I would like some Asian food, son of a bitch," followed by asking if the caller could come to the restaurant to see the employee naked (and see the "hot Asian spicy ass"). Also included in the bit were jokes about stereotypical Chinese pronunciations ("flied lice"). The NEW YORK chapter of the ORGANIZATION OF CHINESE AMERICANS issued a press release complaining about the bit, noting that the segment initially aired on APRIL 5, the day after the DON IMUS RUTGERS comments, and were repeated on APRIL 19.
JV and ELVIS read an apology at the end of MONDAY's show, with JEFF VANDERGRIFT noting that he is married to an Asian woman (Korean model/actress NATASHA YI).
