CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KIXW-A/VICTORVILLE-BARSTOW, CA noon-3p host BARB STANTON has been suspended for remarks on her APRIL 25 show about a local bank's pending merger with another financial institution, according to the VICTORVILLE DAILY PRESS.
The paper reports that STANTON urged listeners to withdraw their accounts from DESERT COMMUNITY BANK after it announced a merger with EAST WEST BANK, a PASADENA company based in the area's Asian community. STANTON added that customers would "see more Chinese faces in the bank than ever before, I predict. They're going to bring their own staff." She also called EAST WEST President DOMINIC NG a "Chinese-looking guy, I am not trying to be scurrilous towards him, a foreigner" (NG is an American citizen) and accused DCB President RON WILSON of lying.
The PRESS quotes a memo from station management saying, "Comments were made that may have been viewed as insensitive. KIXW does not condone or approve of insensitive on-air remarks." The station is airing TALK RADIO NETWORK's JERRY DOYLE in STANTON's place for now.
