ALBANY BROADCASTING Top 40 WFLY/ALBANY morning gang "THE FLY MORNING RUSH" of BRIAN CODY, CHRISSY CAVOTTA and JIM CLARK did a great ticket giveaway this week called "Network For NICKLEBACK."
Said CLARK, "This is our name for the ol' 'Get the most famous person you know to call the show' bit. This has been a lot of fun for us. We have front-row tickets for a huge NICKLEBACK/DAUGHTRY/STAIND concert that's coming to town on JULY 8, so we've been amazed by the quality of the famous people our listeners 'claim' to know. We've been told we can expect calls from JOE TORRE, RACHEL RAY, KELLY RIPA, HULK HOGAN, MIKE TYSON, GENE SIMMONS and WILL and JADA SMITH, to name a few. In the end we got calls from JOHN JAMES, who was JEFF COLBY on 'DYNASTY' and 'THE COLBYS'. He also worked with ANNA NICOLE SMITH on her last movie and gave us some insight into who the real ANNA was, not the media-created mess she's perceived as.
"But the biggest celebrity to call us was JASON VARITEK, the catcher for the BOSTON RED SOX. This excited me since I'm the only RED SOX fan on the show, BRIAN and CHRISSY are YANKEES fans and it is YANKEE country. VARITEK was cool, and when we asked him if he really enjoyed smacking the YANKEES' A-ROD and causing a bench clearing brawl in the 2004 season, he said, 'I plead the 5th.' All the celebs were given the chance to talk about their charity work and raise awareness of them. We had fun with it."
