NEWMAN MEDIA Hot AC WNFB (MIX 94.3)/GAINESVILLE morning show hosts JACK WILEY and TARA MADISON started their show a little differently FRIDAY morning. A wildfire was hitting home, shutting down the city and putting COLUMBIA COUNTY in a state of emergency. At 6a JACK and TARA began asking their listeners for donations of bottled water and sports drinks to help supply the fire fighters and emergency reponders arriving from other counties and states.
With the help of MIX 94.3 station owners JOHN and CESTA NEWMAN and airstaffers RYAN WALKER and BARRY COLE, 10 truckloads of supplies had been delivered to fire fighters within hours. Local businesses agreed to be drop-off locations and by SATURDAY morning the total had reached more than 20 truckloads filled with thousands of cases of water, sports drinks, and snack bars and even hundreds of bags of socks.
The MIX MORNING SHOW team of JACK WILEY, a retired police officer, and TARA MADISON, daughter of a career fire fighter, have first-hand experience in the needs of emergency responders. When asked how they generated and planned such a huge response in a short period of time, JACK and TARA replied, "It's obvious we have the best radio listeners in the world!"
