The DENVER POST reports that three advertisers have pulled their schedules from "GUNNY BOB" NEWMAN's show on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KOA-A/DENVER in response to a local liberal advocacy group's petition criticizing NEWMAN's comments last week about Muslims. EXCEL ROOFING, RALPH SCHOMP AUTOMOTIVE, and THREE TOMATOES CATERING asked the station to move their spots out of NEWMAN's time slot, according to PROGRESSNOWACTION, which objects to NEWMAN's comments that all Muslim immigrants to AMERICA be fitted with a GPS tracking bracelet. The group is urging advertisers to join a boycott of the station.
Dir./AM Programming KRIS OLINGER told the POST that NEWMAN has not been disciplined and that "he stated his opinion - - yes, it is an extreme opinion -- but it was his opinion." She added that it is a common occurrence for advertisers to specify that their spots not air during certain programs.
