IL Reps Ask FCC For Temporary Cross-Ownership Waivers For Tribune

Fourteen members of ILLINOIS' congressional delegation, including Reps. DICK DURBIN (D-IL) and DENNIS HASTERT (R-IL), are urging the FCC to move in a "timely fashion" on TRIBUNE CO.'s request for temporary cross-ownership waivers to allow the company to hold onto multiple media properties in several markets while the Commission reviews its cross-ownership rules. Without the waivers, TRIBUNE could be forced to sell either a newspaper or broadcasting properties in markets like NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, and SOUTH FLORIDA as the company is sold to SAM ZELL and an employee stock ownership plan.
The legislators sent a letter to FCC Chairman KEVIN MARTIN asking for his "personal attention" to the request. TRIBUNE owns one radio station, Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO.
