NEW JERSEY STATE TROOPERS FRATERNAL ASSOCIATION President DAVID JONES has been suspended for five days and reprimanded for his tirade about MILLENNIUM Talk WKXW (NEW JERSEY 101.5)/TRENTON and afternoon host CRAIG CARTON on MAY 3 in which JONES exposed CARTON's home address and license plate number.
JONES' press conference followed the station's discussions of a troopers' Internet message board and plans reported there to hit NEW JERSEY drivers with a ticket blitz in retaliation for criticism of the troopers' role in Gov. JON CORZINE's crash on APRIL 12. The punishment by the State Police was handed down after state Attorney General STUART RABNER decided that JONES' actions warranted discipline; Superintendent Col. RICK FUENTES decided to make the punishment a five-day suspension.
In a statement, MILLENNIUM COO ANDY SANTORO replied, "This was a severe case of intimidation, abuse of power and clearly tarnished the reputation of the fine men and women who serve as state troopers," and he voiced disappointment with the lenient nature of the punishment.
