What does CBS Sports WIP-A/PHILADELPHIA evening host GLEN MACNOW do when he's not agonizing over ROD BARAJAS' inability to block the plate or the EAGLES' latest inscrutable personnel moves? He's choosing, with a panel of celebrity judges, PHILADELPHIA's best pizza in "PIZZA PALOOZA," and the winner, chosen THURSDAY night, is a perennial local favorite, TACCONELLI's in the PORT RICHMOND neighborhood.
TACCONELLI'S beat out pies from TRENTON's DE LORENZO'S TOMATO PIE, BRIDGEPORT's FRAZONE'S, and PHILADELPHIA's MARRA'S, LAZAROS, and CELEBRE'S in the finals, judged by ST. JOSEPH'S basketball coach PHIL MARTELLI; FLYERS great BERNIE PARENT; NFL FILMS football expert, WIP weekender, and former BULLETIN and DAILY NEWS columnist RAY DIDINGER; LE BEC FIN owner/chef GEORGES PERRIER; and EAGLES players HANK BASKETT and TODD HERREMANS. Slices of plain and pepperoni from each establishment were tasted to arrive at a winner. The finalists were narrowed down from a field of 43 restaurants.
