The publisher of the FINANCIAL TIMES, PEARSON PLC, is exploring making its own bid for DOW JONES, reports the WALL STREET JOURNAL.
PEARSON has reportedly approached HEARST and GENERAL ELECTRIC and was turned down by NBC UNIVERSAL about partnering in a bid against RUPERT MURDOCH's NEWS CORP., which is pursuing a $5 million bid. The PEARSON bid is considered a long shot, with the FINANCIAL TIMES publisher looking to see if it can create synergies between its paper, the strongest in EUROPE, and the JOURNAL, the strongest in the U.S.
