TRACY CLOHERTY has been named PD at CBS Rock WXRK (92.3 K-ROCK)/NEW YORK, it was announced today by VP/GM TOM CHIUSANO. CLOHERTY is considered one of the market’s leading programmers, with a highly successful tenure at EMMIS Top 40/Rhythmic WQHT (HOT 97.1). The appointment is effective on TUESDAY (6/26).
“A lot of really good programmers very much wanted the chance to program ‘The Rock of NEW YORK’ and help us reestablish ourselves as one of the most influential radio stations in the market,” said CHIUSANO. “TRACY clearly stood out from the rest of the field. Not only is her track record impeccable, but her enthusiasm is beyond compare. I can’t wait for her to get started. I know she will build a winning team, leading us to a long and successful run.”
Programming K-Rock is something Iâ??ve wanted to do for more than 10 years.
CLOHERTY joined WQHT in 1988 and spent almost two decades with the top-performing station. During her tenure, the station was ranked #1 with adults 18-34 more than 50 times -- 49 consecutively. She began as Research Director and later held the titles of Asst. MD, MD and Associate PD. In 1997 she was promoted to PD and later was named VP/Programming, overseeing EMMIS’ two additional NEW YORK properties, Urban AC WRKS and Smooth Jazz WQCD (2001-05). CLOHERTY continued to consult WQHT through 2006.
Additionally, CLOHERTY was responsible for finding and developing WQHT’s morning show, a program that was a consistent leader with adults 18-34, earning a double-digit share among the demographic.
“Programming K-ROCK is something I’ve wanted to do for more than 10 years,” said CLOHERTY. “And I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help create what will once again be a great Rock station. They are already off to a fast start with OPIE AND ANTHONY in the morning and a killer arrangement of music. Incorporating other talented personalities into the lineup will get us to the next level of success.”
